On successive days last weekend, I received a call from a desperate bridal consultant when a wedding photographer bailed out do to illness and listened to a couple I had just booked complain how their friends never received their wedding photos. I was not able to help the wedding consultant because I was then on the way to a location shoot. I left her some referrals but the ceremony was to start in 15 minutes. It really left me feeling angry that someone would not live up to their responsibilities no matter how sick they were or at least find someone to cover the wedding in case of an emergency. The couple I booked were rightly wary about handing over hard earned money for a wedding after the horror stories they heard from friends. I hear these stories every week in my position. I amazes me how many photographers burn their clients and produce no photos or delay for months. The only thing I could really say to assure this couple is that we have been around for 50 years and guarantee our work. I think I would have to be on my death bed to miss a contracted wedding. And then I still be on the phone to find a professional to replace me.
